Bring on the wind! I'm a local Lewes resident and seeing a wind farm out of my window on Lewes Beach, or more realistically not seeing one because of the off shore distance, can't come soon enough. I'd love to be involved in anyway possible. Let's be a Mid-Atlantic leader and role model in our energy future, stop building coal power plants that destroy our natural enviroment and the health of other Delawarians, and create more habitat for local fish by errecting a Delaware Wind Farm. My dream for the future is to take my children fishing underneath these majestic feats of engineering.

I wonder whether anyone has looked into the Cape Wind project that has been proposed for off Cape Cod. There seem to be some similarities between that project and this one; however, the Cape Code project is quite controversial for several reasons--partly because of the commercial/recreational use of the area proposed to site the turbines, also due to some (alleged) technical issues with the turbines. A few other issues were raised as well. I'm not bringing this up because I am against the wind park, I'm just curious to see if this project addresses those concerns.

My question has to do with where and how the transmissions lines will come on shore from the two proposed De. sites. I would like to see a visualization of this, with the detailed location, rather than a visualization of the turbines, which I may not be able to see at all.

I am wondering about the effects the turbine bases will have on the swell and wave action along the coast of Delaware. Have there been studies on these effects, and how does the distance of the wind farm from the coast determind these effects? I would also be interested to know what type of underwater structure will be used to support the turbines.(materials and design) I appreciate this open forum for the public to gain insite and knowledge, to make a more informed decision on our growing energy needs, while protecting our enviorment. Congratulations so far. As a Danish citizen, I am pleased to see our commonality. To us, co-financing is important. How do you feel about letting a part, big or small, of your investment needs be covered by local Delawareans?

Thomas- Thanks for your encouraging words, and we appreciate the pioneering work done in Denmark, begun over 15 years ago, which has made offshore wind a reality around the world today.

The ratepayers of Delaware will benefit from having stable-priced, pollution free wind energy from the Delaware Offshore Wind Park, regardless of how it is financed.

We have in fact looked into "co-financing", and will continue to explore ways to get an ever-better deal for Delaware rate-payers.
However fundamental utility and investment policy differences between Denmark and the US mean that closely duplicating the Danish approach is not possible over here. For example, investor protection laws in the US make Danish-style "wind co-ops" trickier to finance in the US.

If Delmarva Power & Light were to enter into a long-term contract with Bluewater Wind, Delaware ratepayers would get all the benefits of an offshore wind park, without having to pay for it up-front. This is a good deal for Delaware.

I am in Massachusetts where we are dealing with the Cape Wind project issue.

Most of the problems come from NIMBYS who think it will negatively impact the area , environment, and their precious views. They put their own interest against the energy savinsg and health benefits to the public. In a time of peak oil which will be declining in the coming years, and wars for oil that have killd thousands of our young americans....and disrupted relations with the middle east for centuries to come, we need to look to alternative sources of energy. Much similar to NIMBY Opposition of bike paths, the people who voice the most concern about these projects usually end up being the ones who enjoy the paths the most 10 years down the road once they are built .Studies in Denmark and Europe have shown that wind farms are an effective source in non-fossil fuel burning energy and will greatly reduce greenhouse gas emmissions with little impact on the environment.

pleae support wind farms today. The beenfits far outweigh the cost of global warming.

I would like to see some cost projections on this project. We might get some energy from wind, but it the cost is very high then it might not be worthwhile.

Does anybody have the $/kwH for the various souces of energy availible?

Nuclear, wind, coal, nat gas, solar, bio, etc.
We can calculate costs from our current energy usages for each find.

The kilowatt hour costs for fossil fuels will do nothing but rise. They are misleading anyway since we are paying for fossil fuel by supporting a war and all sorts of military vehicles to get us there through our taxes already. The GSA and some group in Canada says we are already paying the equivalent of about $7/at pump (2003 prices) for our gasoline. What was the pump price in 2003? Our infrastructure to defend other ports/countries/suez/Panama shipping lanes Hormuz, etc is costing us without our knowing it.
